Student Success Statement: Confucius

Student Success Statement
“To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice”
Confucius
Reflection: Well basically Confucius is making a valid argument; you need to do what is right in order to succeed in life. It is not only cowardly but it is also a sign of weakness of giving up. Losing hope in yourself is what gets you to be cowardly, when you do that you will ultimately choose the wrong. When you become someone like when you are trying to find who you are you need to become someone to be proud of to choose the right, to have courage to be someone you are proud of because losing hope in yourself is one of the worst things you can do.

Student Success Statement: W. Clement Stone

Student Success Statement
“Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right things because it is right. There are the (3) magic keys to living your life with integrity.”
W. Clement Stone
Reflection: All Mr. Stone is trying to say is that when you do something wrong (hopefully you won’t) you need to gain courage to speak up own up to what you did. You need to gain a sense of reality to know that you’re going to be on the right track in life to gain an understanding of what you did was wrong and how to make it right and never do it again. It’s like if you steal you shouldn’t but if you do you must give it back and suffer the consequences because that’s the right thing to do.

Student Success Statement: Thomas Carlyle

Student Success Statement
“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
Thomas Carlyle
Reflection: Well all that Thomas Carlyle was trying to say is that when you don’t have goals you don’t have direction. When you don’t have direction in your life you don’t have really anything. You need to get your priorities and goals straight. It is like a ship sort of, you need directions and motivation to get where you need to go. For your direction it is all based on your goals and without motivation you won’t have a rudder. All you need to do is learn what you want to do to be happy and to be on course for your dreams.

Student Success Statement: Sophocles, Greek dramatist

Student Success Statement
“Success is dependent on effort.”
-Sophocles, Greek dramatist
Reflection: Well Sophocles just meant that how much work you put into something that’s what you’ll get back. When you try your best on something the results will always be good when you don’t try the results will be bad. You need to make sure you try and put work into whatever you do. It will create a sort of psychological pattern that will ultimately make you happy. Hearing how good you do no matter what will put you in a pattern of happiness, it allows you to make sure you try your best on everything not just one or two things. Once you start to put less and less effort well for instance your grades will slip, your character traits will start to deplete making you not want to try and do anything making your life well at a standstill. Always do what is required and do your best it will make you happy, and on the road to success.

Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company.”
Anon
Reflection: Well what I believe this quote to mean is when you hang out with the wrong people you will start developing bad habits, but being alone is just as bad you can develop chronic depression, manic obsessive habits to get away from the loneliness. In retrospect you cannot be in bad company or alone you need to realize that you need to gain some ‘good’ friends. A person who both makes you happy and has a future ahead of them not corrupted, to stop all, hopes of becoming someone.

Student Success Statement: Sean Covey

Student Success Statement
“So often, in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the ‘in-group,’ we lose sight of things that are far more important.”
Sean Covey
Reflection: Mr. Covey is saying that when you try too hard to become someone you’re not you will lose sight of who you really are and what you want in life. You end up losing yourself so to speak. It makes you forget what you were like, what dreams you had because they had been corrupted by others tell you what to do, how to dress, speak etc. It makes you forget and lose yourself, so always be true to yourself. Have your own ideas and opinions don’t try and be someone you’re not be proud of who you are.

Student Success Statement: Og Mandino

Student Success Statement
http://www.freenew.net/upload/iv1/s/47/nd1/d1c35d027d1fb7be2cc1cbd067aeaff8.jpg “The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is—‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’ ”
Og Mandino
Reflection:  All Mr. Mandino was trying to get across was if you have bad habit ultimately you will fail. As your habits become good and you try to do well you will have a good habits. You need to understand that good habits make you succeed they shape your work ethic, yourself worth, your view on other things. It makes you think that if you want to fail, your habits will show it. Put yourself in high gear gain an achievement of sorts, have good habits to gain good results.

Student Success Statement:Anon

Student Success Statement
“Keep your eyes on the prize”
Anon
Reflection: What this person is trying to say is that you need to make sure your goals are always in sight. You need to get your priorities straight so when you are close to achieving them you won’t feel worried of pressure. All you need to do is make sure you have enough willpower to make sure you know what your goals are. You need to see what’s ahead instead of looking behind. View the positive you’re going to do not the negative let your goals be something your proud of, proud to do. Always have your goals in front of you, let them guide you to greatness.

Student Success Statement: Joseph Smith

Student Success Statement
“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and food, and (to make) unpopular that which is unsound (not good).”
Joseph Smith
Reflection: Smith is saying that we need to focus on showing people what is right, to show them that it is important and we as humans need to be examples to teach the next generations what right is. He means we have to show that things like recycling, anti-bullying, being ecofriendly are good habits to have and to make those popular. When you put things like alcohol, drugs, and bad role models children (our next generation) will view that as good, do you think we should? It is a factor or common decency yet people portray it as we are “judging” the way you raise your child. If you put a child in front of two separate people, one being a rapper with luxuries and then a neuroscientist beside one another the child would obviously choose the person well suited to they’re interests. When you think of what it would be it is WE NEED TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE!

Student Success Statement: Howard Cosell

Student Success Statement
“What’s right isn’t always popular. What’s popular isn’t always right.”
Howard Cosell
Reflection: Mr. Cosell is stating an inevitable fact in society, when someone does something it has a chain reaction effect. You need to do what YOU think is right, not what anyone else thinks. You need to realize what is right. Right is something you need to discover on your own with guidance or how else would you know what’s bad in society in your life, anywhere? You need to do what’s right to prove to yourself you’re great. If something is popular, like weed for instance, if I asked you to try some what would you do? I wouldn’t ever try any myself because I know the dangers, I know the consequences but not by experience by learning. Just like people need to LEARN about things, to know what is right, to know what right is.

Successful Students 5-6

Successful Students
5-6

5. Don’t sit in the back of the room. Successful Students minimize classroom distractions that interfere with learning.
Students want the best seat available for their entertainment dollars, but willingly seek the worst seat for their educational dollars. Students who sit in the back cannot possibly be their professor’s teammate (see no. 4). Why do they expose themselves to the temptations of inactive classroom experiences and distractions of all the people between them and their instructor? Of course, we all know they choose the back if the room because they seek invisibility or anonymity, both of which are antithetical to efficient and effective learning. If you are trying not to be part of the class, then, you are wasting your time? Push your hot buttons, is there something else you should be doing with your time?
6.  …take good notes. Successful students take notes that are understandable and organized, and review them often.
Why put something into your notes you don’t understand? Ask the questions now that are necessary to make your notes meaningful at some later time. A short review of your notes while the material is still fresh on your mind helps you to learn more. The more you learn then, the less you’ll have to learn later and the less time it will tale because you won’t have to include some deciphering time, also. The whole purpose of taking notes is to use them, and use them often. The more you use them, the more they improve.

Student Success Statement: Martin Luther King Jr

Student Success Statement
“The time is always right to do what is right.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Reflection: Well there is always time to do what’s right but tell me right is what you think it . Right is however you view it and if you are someone who’s sees it as an opportunity for redemption or an opportunity to help out our community which would be right? You need to show you are genuine about doing what’s right if not your lying to yourself. Martin Luther King Jr worked, no dedicated his life in being an activist in the way racism was being foretold in his time he wanted to show no matter who you are you can achieve success, and  this quote just shows how ahead of his time he really was. If he would have quit in not doing what he thought was right, how would life be? He shows you need to be genuine about how much you care not only in life but in things you feel strongly about to become what you wanted in doing what you think is right. All you need to do is show how much you care about something you can do it anytime you want there isn’t a time you should quit at it if it deems representable. You need to have justifiable reasons why you care, why you are someone who needs to be heard, why you are someone who is genuinely doing what’s right.

Successful Students: 3-4

Successful Students
3-4

3.   ... ask questions. Successful students ask questions to provide the quickest route between ignorance and knowledge. In addition to securing knowledge you seek, asking questions has at least two other extremely important benefits. The process helps you pay attention to your professor and helps your professor pay attention to you! Think about it. If you want something, go after it. Get the answer now, or fail a question later. There are no foolish questions, only foolish silence. It’s your choice.
4. … learn that a student and a professor make a team. Most instructors want exactly what you want: they would like for you to learn the material in their respective classes and earn a good grade.

Successful students reflect well on efforts of any teacher; if you have learned your material, the instructor takes some justifiable pride in teaching. Join forces with your instructor, they are not your enemy, you share the same interests, the same goals -  in short, your teammates. Get to know your professor. You’re the most valuable players on the team. Your jobs are to work together for mutual success. Neither wishes to chalk up a losing season. Be a team player!

Student Success Statement: Ernest Hemingway

Student Success Statement
“I know only that what is moral is what you feel good after and what is immoral is what you feel bad after.”
Ernest Hemingway
Pay attention to what’s right and what’s wrong.
Reflection: Ernest probably meant that when you know what’s right you know it’s moral and humane because you didn’t feel bad. When he said that he probably meant to say it as in when you know something is right and you know where you’re going in life and how to view things then you will realize you are doing what’s right and not what’s wrong. It doesn’t only portray as bad but good, many things to us human’s looks wrong or right but that’s all based on how you are raised and with bad morals, bad actions occur and how one person may view a good deed as a bad one and vice versa. People need to understand that when you do something right it has to be right but to us humans what is right?

Student Success Statement:Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Student Success Statement
“My strength is as the strength of ten because my heart is pure”
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Reflection: Alfred means that he has no need for strength because his heart is pure. It means he has common decency and CTR’s because he’s gone far. He has not only become a good person but he has also tried to gain achievement in what he’s done and how he sees the world. He sees it as long as he knows what’s right he knows he can succeed and prosper as a human and very happy.

Study for Multiple Exams Part 3

Study for Multiple Exams
Part 3
English, math, foreign tips: Practice—especially foreign language. It is hard to succeed in a foreign language class if you are just showing and doing the work. But if you are in your room and look at objects and try to do say them in the language you are learning it actually helps. Or if you send a simple text to a friend think about it, you can translate that to German or Spanish? These are the little things that will help.
Here are my final words of wisdom for students who want to get better grades in college: Time management and organization are critical key factors to success in college. And never be afraid to go ask your teacher for help. They have office hours for a reason-use them!

Student Success Statement: Anon

Student Success Statement:
“There is not set path, just follow your heart.”
Anon
Reflection: This entire quote means is that you need to follow your heart no matter what. You need to remember to believe in your choices from your heart, when you know your right and what you’re doing is right you don’t need to second guess yourself. When you can be able to trust your heart to lead you to greatness is when you know you’re making your own future bright.

Work Together:Part 3

Work Together
Part 3
Here are my final words of wisdom for students who want to get better grades in college: A big thing that not many will say is to ask for help if you needed it. It’s not a bad thing to not understand, it’s a bad thing if you don’t do anything about it. Plan you time out so you are completing everything that needs to get done and leave time to double check. Write things down and have a good time management skills. Ask for help is probably the biggest thing I can say though. If you don’t understand, go to office hours or find a classmate that does understand and is willing to help you. If you try hard, it will come to you. I find myself thinking that I would have to try harder to fail than I try and succeed. It is something that is within me to succeed. If that is not who you are, then hopefully things that I have done can show you that success is something that is amazing to find! Good luck!

Work Together: Part 2

Work Together
Part 2
English, math, foreign language tips: For math, all I can say is do the problems assigned. It is the only way to practice and that’s really all it is for math. It’s the same for chemistry; if you do the practice problems you will understand the material so much better because those subjects are not just memorization like history, you need to be able to apply what you have learned in practical situations. As for English I am no longer taking it but I would say to leave yourself plenty of time to write essays and papers. They take them to get all the information out of your head and onto the page, so don’t leave them until the last second.

WORK TOGETHER:Part 1

WORK TOGETHER
Part 1
I can and will work as part of the team as long as everyone in the team is willing to do his work. I don’t like having to pick up the slack, but I will if I know that my grade will be harmed otherwise. My greatest academic success was in my first semester when I had to write a 10-12 page research paper. It was the longest paper I had ever been assigned and I was a little scared. Also, it was the first paper where they were like, here you go, just write about something. I had to argue in favor of or against something, but it could be anything from the sky is blue to hypnotism. I wrote mine on hypnotism. I worked on this paper for weeks and weeks. Every night I would be doing research or writing. I put so much effort into this paper. I ended up being just under 12 pages but it was full on information. I turned it in and when I got it back a week or so later, I had received the first A+ of my college career. All my hard work paid off because I got the grade I deserved. I was really happy and proud of myself.
